The final half of the final season of AMC’s hit series “Breaking Bad” is about to start. That’s doubly bad news for us Albuquerque residents. Not only is a great story coming to an end, but a hallmark TV show will no longer be shooting in the Duke City. On Saturday, March 16, Albuquerque Studios will host a private farewell reception to “Breaking Bad” from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The reception is invite-only, but Albuquerque-based social services agency Youth Development, Inc. is sponsoring a raffle in which five lucky people will win two tickets to the reception. Winners will also get a meet-and-greet and a photo op with Bryan Cranston and the cast of “Breaking Bad.” In addition, they’ll get a private golf cart tour of Albuquerque Studios, where much of the series was filmed. The date of the raffle is this Thursday, March 14, at 5 p.m. So you’d better snap up those raffle tickets quick! They’re $10 each or six for $50.
On Thursday, March 14, the Reel New Mexico Film Series at La Tienda will present the fracking documentary Rooted Lands. The film follows the residents of nearby Mora and San Miguel counties as they mobilize to protect their homes from the threat of hydraulic fracturing. Filmmakers Renea Roberts and Nancy Dickenson will be on hand for a Q&A following the screening, which starts at 7 p.m. A suggested $5 donation gets you in the door. La Tienda’s performance space is located just outside Santa Fe. For directions, go to Reel New Mexico.
Music to Our Ears
The New Mexico Film Experience takes over Santa Fe’s Center for Contemporary Arts Cinematheque on Sunday, March 17. This partnership between CCA and the New Mexico Film Office features screenings and panel discussions about film from a local perspective. This month’s topic is “Composing for Film.” Composers and musicians Ck Marlow, Jeff Mettling, John Rangel, Andy Gabrys and Sue Lucas will be hosting the panel on what composing means for film and how it’s done. Films will be screened with and without score. This event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
