Trek on Deck

You’re all probably aware of the fact that the new film Star Trek Into Darkness opens on May 10. If you can’t wait that long for a Trek fix, though, Fathom Events is having a special screening on Thursday, April 25, of the much-loved “Star Trek: The Next Generation” episode “The Best of Both Worlds.” This two-part episode (the one where Picard becomes a Borg) has been edited together and digitally restoredwith new CGI effects. Audiences will also get to see special behind-the-scenes clips from the making-of documentary. The event gets underway at 7 p.m. at Rio 24, Cottonwood 16 and Downtown 14 theaters. Tickets are available at the box office or through Fathom Events.

A Taste of Bergman

The KiMo Theatre launches a new film series with World Cinema Classics. The series gets underway this Thursday, April 25, with Ingmar Bergman’s 1957 masterpiece Wild Strawberries. The film centers around an aging professor who is forced to confront the emptiness of his existence. What could be more European than that? It’s in Swedish with English subtitles. Admission is $5 for students and seniors and $7 for adults. Tickets can be purchased in advance at kimotickets.com. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Film starts at 8 p.m.

Casting for Beautiful Things

Incredible Films and local, award-winning filmmaker Christopher Michael Roybal (Descansos, Letters to Our Daughters) are casting for their upcoming feature, Beautiful Things. The drama, about a young man’s search for the most beautiful things on Earth, will begin production this spring. Producers are currently seeking females, ages 5 to 30, with acting and modeling experience. Women with “strong spiritual lifestyles and interesting-colored eyes” are especially encouraged to apply. This is not a paid gig. An open casting call will take place at the MCM Eleganté Hotel on Saturday, April 27, from 2 to 5 p.m. Applicants are encouraged to prepare a poem or prayer to recite during the audition. Submit to SFIFF

Local filmmakers take note: This Wednesday, May 1, is the regular deadline to submit films to the upcoming Santa Fe Independent Film Festival. The fest won’t take place until Oct. 16, but you can send your features, documentaries and shorts for consideration right now. Entry fees ($45 for shorts, $60 for features and docs) go up after May 1. The final deadline to submit films is Aug. 1.
