“The Goldbergs” on ABC

Thursday 19

“Million Second Quiz” (KOB-4 7pm) This damn thing makes no sense at all.

“Valerie’s Story: A Meredith Vieira Special” (KOB-4 9pm) ABC puts Valerie Harper on “Dancing With the Stars,” but NBC lands the serious, hour-long interview with the cancer-battling actress.

Friday 20

“The Secret Life of Predators” (National Geographic 6pm) I understand the need to sex up nature documentaries, N.G. But predators don’t have a “secret” life so much as a ... you know, stealthy life.

Saturday 21

“2013 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards” (FXX 7pm) FX’s spin-off network FXX (clever, that) debuts in a big, big way, offering viewers a chance to see what television luminaries captured technical awards for Best Sound Editing, Best Casting and Outstanding Special Class—Short-Format Nonfiction Program.

Sunday 22

“The 65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards” (KRQE-13 6pm) Meanwhile, go-to guy Neil Patrick Harris hosts the real Emmy ceremony. ... I’d just like to use this last opportunity to complain that Tatiana Maslany from “Orphan Black” didn’t get nominated.

“Dexter” (Showtime 7pm) Showtime’s serial-killing crime-solver series signs off for the final time, a season or two (or three, depending on who you talk to) past its prime. Still, It’s been a good, bloody eight seasons.

Monday 23

“Mom” (KRQE-13 8:30pm) CBS’ generically titled sitcom about an alcoholic single mom whose newfound sobriety is tested by her formerly estranged mother at least gets a solid cast—including Anna Faris, Allison Janney, Nate Corddry and French Stewart.

“Hostages” (KRQE-13 9pm) Based on an Israeli series, this crime thriller centers on a doctor (Toni Collette) who is about to perform surgery on the President of the United States. Naturally her family gets kidnapped by a rogue FBI agent (Dylan McDermott), and she’s blackmailed into killing the President. If this lasts one season, it might be good. If it gets stretched to a second season, it will suck.

“The Blacklist” (KOB-4 9pm) James Spader does his best Hannibal Lecter as the FBI’s most wanted fugitive, now helping track down other evil criminals.

Tuesday 24

“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” (KOAT-7 7pm) Marvel’s The Avengers gets a (mostly) non-super-powered spin-off, courtesy of Mr. J.J. Abrams.

“The Goldbergs” (KOAT-7 8pm) The twist in this family sitcom is that it’s set in the ’80s. Kinda like “That ’80s Show.”

“Trophy Wife” (KOAT-7 8:30pm) A reformed party girl (Malin Akerman) marries a rich older dude (Bradley Whitford) with two ex-wives. Hijinks ensue.

“Lucky 7” (KOAT-7 9pm) The lives of seven random people are drastically altered after they win the lottery. Not to be confused with the 2006 NBC series “Windfall,” which had the exact same plot and was canceled after two months.

Wednesday 25

“Back in the Game” (KOAT-7 7:30pm) After “striking out on her own” (ABC’s clever wordplay, not mine), an All-Star softball player (Maggie Lawson from “Psych”) and her son move back in with her grumpy, opinionated father (James Caan). Also she starts coaching the local Little League team.

Trash at National Hispanic Cultural Center

After three boys picking trash in the slums of Rio de Janeiro find a wallet in the daily detritus of their local dump, they little imagine that their lives are about to change forever.
