New Mexico filmmakers, take note: Another deadline fast approacheth. This Saturday, Nov. 30, marks the end of the early bird deadline to submit your work to the Santa Fe Film Festival. For New Mexico residents, the submission fee jumps to $30 for features and $20 for shorts throughout the month of December. The late deadline runs Dec. 31 through Jan. 31, and fees top out at $40 and $30. Feature-length narrative films must be 50 minutes or longer. Feature-length documentaries must be 40 minutes or longer. Short films have a maximum run time of 49 minutes (narrative, animation, experimental, etc.) and 39 minutes (documentary). Submissions are being accepted through withoutabox.com. Next year’s Santa Fe Film Festival is scheduled to take place May 1 through 4.

The Santa Fe Film Festival, along with SHOOT Santa Fe, is also sponsoring the Santa Fe Film Festival Pilot Project. The object of this contest is to find the next great TV series to shoot in New Mexico. You just have to come up with an idea and shoot a 60 to 90-second trailer for a TV series that could be shot in and around Santa Fe. The show should be “budget conscious with a strong enough story to build an ongoing series.” The best submission will receive $2500 from SHOOT Santa Fe, crew hours from IATSE Local 480, equipment and support services from Panavision, plus goods and services from Elliot Location Equipment Rentals, Santa Fe Studios, Duke City Catering and TV Equipment Rentals. The winner will use these resources to shoot either a 10-minute studio pitch or a 22-minute pilot that will premiere at the 2014 Santa Fe Film Festival and on SFTV-Channel 28. The final deadline is Dec. 1. Entry fee is $50 ($25 for students).

Reel World: Santa Fe School Adds Digital Effects Santa Fe School Adds Digital Effects

The Film School at Santa Fe University of Art and Design continues to push the bounds of its filmmaking program with new and innovative additions. Earlier this month SFUAD announced a partnership with Cosmic Forces, a firm specializing in high-end animation, motion graphics and new media for feature films and television. The company is the newest movie industry tenant to open an office in the school’s building. Cosmic Forces recently finished work on the Paula Patton comedy Baggage Claim for Fox Searchlight and is currently engaged with the US Department of Energy on a visualization project for training purposes. Film students at SFUAD will be able to intern with the company and gain entry into the industry. Cosmic Forces joins Midthunder Casting, which opened an office at SFUAD late this summer.
