Week in Sloth

“Rudolph’s Shiny New Year” provoked the YouTube comment: “I did not like the premise of the movie that it’s OK to laugh at people who are different.“
“Rudolph’s Shiny New Year” provoked the YouTube comment: “I did not like the premise of the movie that it’s OK to laugh at people who are different.“

Thursday 26

“Inside the Actor’s Studio” (Bravo 5pm) James Lipton gives us a two-for-one tonight, interviewing actor Bruce Dern and his daughter Laura Dern.

Friday 27

“Nikita” (KWBQ-19 8pm) The CW’s surprisingly long-running spin-off of Luc Besson’s La Femme Nikita hits its series finale with frustrated assassin Nikita (Maggie Q) trying to shut down MDK once and for all. Blood will probably be spilled.

Saturday 28

“WWE Tribute to the Troops” (KOB-4 7pm) Ventriloquist Jeff Dunham makes with the funny, Daughtry rocks out and lots of WWE stars smack each other around. Lucky troops.

“Sex Sent Me to the E.R.” (TLC 8pm) In the premiere episode of TLC’s new documentary series ... Wait. This is a series?

Sunday 29

“The 36th Annual Kennedy Center Honors” (KRQE-13 8pm) CBS ages its demographic some more with this annual sit-and-celebrate. Among this year’s honorees: soprano Martina Arroyo, pianist Herbie Hancock, singer Billy Joel and actress Shirley MacLaine.

“Finding Bigfoot: Abominable Snowman” (Animal Planet 7pm) OK, so they haven’t been able to find Bigfoot for four seasons. But I have a really good feeling about this Abominable Snowman thing.

“Treme” (HBO 7pm) HBO says goodbye to its post-Katrina New Orleans drama with a 75-minute series finale. Music will probably be played.

Monday 30

“Happy New Year, Charlie Brown” (KOAT-7 7pm) In this 1986 holiday special, Charlie Brown struggles to read War and Peace while the rest of the Peanuts gang parties. The rest of the Peanuts gang are dicks.

“Rudolph’s Shiny New Year” (KOAT-7 8pm) Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer had pretty much outlived his usefulness by the time he got drafted into this 1976 Rankin/Bass TV special about an evil bird who kidnaps the New Year Baby.

Tuesday 31

“A Toast to 2013!” (KOB-4 7pm) Hosts Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda Kotb look back at 2013. The parts they can remember anyway.

“New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Presents the 30 Greatest Women in Music” (KOAT-7 7pm) Ryan Seacrest, Jenny McCarthy and Fergie host. I’m assuming that means Fergie didn’t make the list.

“Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest 2014” (KOAT-7 9pm) Seacrest scores the hat-trick of booking all three of 2013’s most overexposed musical acts in one show: Miley Cyrus, Robin Thicke and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

“NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly 2013” (KOB-4 9pm) Train and Cassadee Pope perform.

“New Year’s Eve Live” (KASA-2 11pm) Krewella, New Politics and Panic! at the Disco perform. Mario Lopez hosts. It’s almost 2014, and we’re still trying to make Mario Lopez happen, eh?

Wednesday 1

“Kim of Queens” (Lifetime 8pm) Apparently the world needs more reality shows about “outspoken” pageant coaches.

“Tattoos After Dark” (Oxygen 9pm) Apparently the world needs more reality shows about “wild and over-the-top” tattoo parlors.
