Week in Sloth
“The Feed” (FYI 8pm) Hosts Gail Simmons, Marcus Samuelsson and Max Silvestri are the stars of this new series described as “part road show, part talk show and part New York City food adventure.” Not to be confused with ABC’s foodie talk show “The Chew.”
“BoJack Horseman” (Netflix streaming anytime) Will Arnett, Aaron Paul, Alison Brie, Amy Sedaris and Paul F. Tompkins provide voices for this adult toon about the washed-up former star of a horse-based sitcom from the ’90s.
“Doctor Who: Live Pre-Show (BBC America 6pm) King of all Nerds, Chris Hardwick (of course), will be hosting this live pre-show special. Guests include writer/actor Mark Gatiss, and there will be plenty of behind-the-scenes footage. There’s also an after-show at 9pm, if you just haven’t had enough.
#PopFan (Lifetime 6pm) An unstable and obsessive fan rescues a pop star from a car crash and takes her to his secluded lighthouse to recuperate. Looks like somebody read Misery. ... On a side note, with three TV series and now a TV movie utilizing hashtags, I predict that in less than two years, we’ll have a TV show title rendered entirely in emoji.
“Doctor Who” (BBC America 7pm) Our newest Doctor (Peter Capaldi) gets right into the swing of things in a “pulse-racing adventure through Victorian London” with companion Clara Oswald and the alien crime-solving trio of Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint and Strax.
“Intruders” (BBC America 8pm) From writer and producer Glen Morgan (“The X-Files”) comes this eerie new supernatural series about a secret society of beings devoted to chasing immortality by periodically taking over the bodies of new hosts.
“Breathless” (KNME-5 8pm) “Masterpiece Mystery!” goes back to the 1960s for this medical drama set in a London gynecology unit. Standing at the forefront of the sexual revolution are Jack Davenport (Pirates of the Caribbean), Zoe Boyle (“Downton Abbey”), Catherine Steadman (Mansfield Park) and Iain Glen (“Downton Abbey”).
“2014 MTV Video Music Awards” (MTV 10pm) Iggy Azalea, Maroon 5, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift—pretty much everyone you suspect—will be showing up at this year’s show. Who will be the first on stage to “shock” audiences?
“True Blood” (HBO 7pm) HBO’s increasingly looney supernatural sex series finally signs off, having killed off a goodly chunk of its cast.
“The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards” (KOB-4 6pm) Seth Meyers hosts. Maybe he can explain why “Sherlock” is nominated in the Best TV Movie category.
“Chelsea Lately Series Finale Special” (E! 12am) Chelsea Handler says goodbye to her comedy chat show after seven years with a one-hour live finale. Rest easy, fans. She’ll be showing up on Netflix shortly.
“Operation Maneater” (KNME 5 9pm) Veterinarian Mark Evans uses technology to tackle three of the world’s deadliest predators: the great white shark, the Nile crocodile and the polar bear.
