Thursday 25

“BOOM!” (KASA-2 7pm) Teams must answer trivia questions or be soaked in slime bombs. … This used to be called “Super Sloppy Double Dare,” and it was for kids.

Friday 26

What Happened, Miss Simone? (Netflix anytime) Netflix premieres the new documentary by filmmaker Liz Garbus (Girlhood; The Farm: Angola, USA; Bobby Fischer Against the World) about the “High Priestess of Soul” herself, Nina Simone.

Teen Beach 2 (Disney 9pm) In the original Teen Beach Movie, a couple of high schoolers found themselves transported back in time to a 1960s, Frankie-and-Annette-style beach movie. This time around, the characters from the movie show up in modern-day Southern California. I just didn’t want you to be confused.

Dennis Rodman’s Big Bang in Pyongyang (Showtime 7pm) Remember that time Dennis Rodman took a team of former NBA stars to North Korea to “improve international relations”? This documentary recounts the whole crazy idea.

Saturday 27

“LOGO TV Trailblazer Honors” (Logo 9pm) Logo hands out awards to LGBT heroes and allies who have “made historic strides toward equality.”

Perfect High (Lifetime 6pm) A teen (singer/model/actress Bella Thorne) starts abusing heroin with her “new friends” from school. Have previous Lifetime movies taught us nothing, people?

Twice Upon a Time (AMC 12am) George Lucas produced this little-seen, but highly regarded animated fantasy from 1983. The unusual cutout-style animation, the improvised comic dialogue and the psychedelic plot have made it a cult favorite.

Sunday 28

“BET Awards 2015 (BET 6pm) I get the feeling this is going to be a somber award show this year.

“Humans” (AMC 7pm) AMC’s first sci-fi series is set in a “parallel present” in which eerily human robots are the must-have gadget. Through a number of intersecting story lines, the show explores the impact of this technology on the human race.

“Nurse Jackie” (Showtime 7pm) Edie Falco’s dark drama/comedy arrives at its series finale.

Monday 29

“Cake Wars” (Food 6pm) Wait. What? Don’t tell me hipster dessert battles have gone past cupcakes, beyond doughnuts and looped back around to ordinary cakes.

“Grubsessed” (Cooking 7pm) “Outrageous food lovers” like a “honey super fan” and a “pancake fanatic” share their obsessions with viewers. OK, but let’s keep it PG-13, guys.

Tuesday 30

“Beat the Champions” (KASA-2 8pm) Amateur athletes square off against professionals like Missy Franklin, Rob Gronkowski and Scottie Pippen—all of whom have been saddled with “absurd handicaps.” … Somebody needs to read “Harrison Bergeron.”

“Zoo” (KRQE-13 7pm) A young scientist tries to figure out what’s behind bizarre animal attacks worldwide in this faintly preposterous sci-fi thriller based on the novel of the same name by faintly preposterous sci-fi thriller writer James Patterson.

“Scream” (MTV 11pm) MTV revives the 19-year-old, self-referential horror series with a loosely connected TV series about a movie-watching masked slasher.

Wednesday 1

“Extant” (KRQE-13 9pm) CBS’ sci-fi snoozefest returns for a second summer season, having ditched most of its cast and a lot of its plot. Hope that helps.
