Week in Sloth

Thursday 22

“Easy” (Netflix streaming anytime) From mumblecore king Joe Swanberg (LOL, Hannah Takes the Stairs, Alexander the Last, Drinking Buddies, Digging For Fire) comes this eight-episode comic anthology featuring guest appearances by Orlando Bloom, Malin Akerman, Marc Maron, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Jake Johnson, Dave Franco, Hannibal Buress, Emily Ratajkowski and more.

“Pitch” (KASA-2 8pm) FOX’s sporting drama about the first woman to play Major League baseball sounds interesting—until you remember that our national pastime is exceptionally boring to watch.

Friday 23

“Longmire” (Netflix streaming anytime) The shot-in-New-Mexico, set-in-Montana rural cop drama kicks off its fourth season by moving from A&E to Netflix.

“MacGyver” (KRQE-13 7pm) Lucas Till (Havok in the X-Men films) takes over for Richard Dean Anderson in this reboot of the cartoonishly popular ‘80s series about a crimefighting sorta-spy who makes stuff out of other stuff.

“The Exorcist” (KASA-2 8pm) And since new ideas are in short supply in Hollywood these days, here’s a weekly version of The Exorcist starring Geena Davis.

“Van Helsing” (Syfy 8pm) The daughter of Dracula nemesis Abraham Van Helsing is woken up after spending years in a coma, only to find herself trapped in a post-apocalyptic world ruled by vampires. Bummer. Also, pretty good career opportunity for her.

Saturday 24

Gringo: The Dangerous Life of John McAfee (Showtime 7pm) Why did the computer mogul behind the world’s first commercial anti-virus software run away and become a recluse in the jungles of Belize? Filmmaker Nanette Burstein attempts to unravel the strange story.

Night Train to Terror (TCM 12am) God and Satan discuss the fates of three people while a really cheesy ’80s band jazzercises its way though a never-ending pop tune. This no-budget horror anthology (stitched together from three other unreleased films) is as goofy as it is incomprehensible. Which means you should totally watch it.

Sunday 25

“Poldark on Masterpiece” (KNME-5 7pm) Aidan Turner returns as the hunky, smoldering hero of this “Masterpiece Theater” revival of Winston Graham’s gothic romance. The cool part? Robin Ellis, who portrayed Ross Poldark in the original adaptation 40 years ago, now appears as Reverend Halse.

Monday 26

“Presidential Debate” (KASA-2/ KOB-4/KNME-5/KOAT-7/KRQE-13 7pm) Here’s where things get interesting. Or not.

Tuesday 27

“Aftermath” (Syfy 8pm) It’s the end of the world as we know it. The Copeland family (led by Anne Heche and Ben Tupper, both of whom starred in ABC’s “Men in Trees”) tries to survive the various supernatural creatures, killer storms and deadly plagues that come with it.

Wednesday 28

Ouch! A Salute to Slapstick (TCM 6pm) TCM’s month long celebration of slapstick comedy continues with some modern classics of silliness. First up is 1988’s Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (6pm). Next up is 1984’s Top Secret! (7:45pm). At 9:30pm it’s 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. The night closes out at 11:15pm with 1983’s Strange Brew.
