Thursday 5

“Truth and Lies: The Menendez Brothers—American Sons, American Murderers” (KOAT-7 8pm) Well, we covered the living hell out of O.J. Simpson and JonBenét Ramsey last year. Why not the Menendez brothers? ’Member them? Good times.

“Nashville” (CMT 10pm) ABC’s musical soap opera heads over to CMT where it probably always belonged.

“Ghosts in the Hood” (WE 11:03pm) Ghost hunters track down supernatural entities haunting South Central Los Angeles in WE’s newest docu-reality series. Given all the “black people react to magic” videos on the internet, I’m thinking this will not go well.

Friday 6

“Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan and Jane” (Netflix streaming anytime) Tarzan is now a radical modern teen (in cargo shorts) given supernatural powers courtesy of a plane crash in this less-than-faithful CGI cartoon reboot of Burroughs’ classic jungle hero.

“One Day at a Time” (Netflix streaming anytime) Netflix reboots the old Bonnie Franklin/Valerie Bertinelli/Mackenzie Phillips sitcom (1975 to 1984) with Justina Machado (“Six Feet Under”) as a single Latina mom raising two kids.

“Ginormous Food” (Food 6pm) Comedian Josh Denny travels America looking for oversized food—like 14-pound bagels and 62-inch pizzas. Fat? Us?

“Emerald City” (KOB-4 8pm) Matthew Arnold (creator of the 2013 NBC show “Siberia”—which you almost certainly don’t remember) is the man behind this modern, revisionist reboot of L. Frank Baum’s Oz books. At least he’s hired visionary director Tarsem Singh (The Cell, The Fall, Immortals, Mirror Mirror) to helm the thing—so it will look cool.

Saturday 7

Life, Animated (A&E 6pm) This unusual, animated documentary chronicles the coming-of-age story of autistic teen Owen Suskind (son of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Ron Suskind) and his family, who learned to communicate with one another through the images and dialogue in Disney animated movies.

Bright Lights: Starring Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds (HBO 6pm) The timing couldn’t be better for the release of this documentary portrait of actress Carrie Fisher and her Hollywood royalty mom Debbie Reynolds.

“MythBusters: The Search” (Science 7pm) When Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman ended their run on “MythBusters,” we all knew the downtime wouldn’t last long. Here, Science Channel seeks out new hosts by running a reality show competition.

Sunday 8

The 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards (KOB-4 6pm) Jimmy Fallon hosts. Like he does.

Monday 9

“Hate Thy Neighbor” (Viceland 8pm) In this timely docu-series, English comedian Jamali Maddix travels the globe checking out the growing resurgence of racist beliefs.

“Big Fan” (KOAT-7 9:01pm) Obsessive fans pit their intimate knowledge of their favorite stars against one another—and ultimately the stars themselves. Tonight’s kickoff guest: Matthew McConaughey.

Tuesday 10

“Taboo” (FX 11pm) Long believed to be dead, an adventurer (creator and star Tom Hardy, fresh off Fury Road) returns from darkest Africa to London, circa 1814, with a sack full of diamonds looking for revenge on the men who murdered his father in this 8-part mini-series.

Wednesday 11

“Street Science” (Science 8pm) Frequent “Tonight Show” guest Kevin Delaney of Little Rock’s Museum of Discovery hits the streets using ingenuity to show off explosive science.
