Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor star in this cute but contrived tribute to the Cary Grant/Doris Day romances of the early 1960s. She plays a pre-feminist author, writer of the pro-career manifesto Down With Love. He plays a ladies' man journalist determined to take her down (so to speak). Tony Randall (Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?, Pillow Talk) comes along to lend period authenticity to the pic. Unfortunately, director Peyton Reed (Bring it On) isn't quite up to the task, eliciting forced performances from his leads and a too-faux atmosphere.
