Wondering why times are missing?

Blue Car

Newcomer Agnes Bruckner gives a heartfelt performance as Meg, a troubled teenager with an absent father and a distracted mother. She finds an outlet for her emotions when a kindly English teacher (David Strathairn) encourages her to enter a poetry contest. As her relationship with her teacher grows stronger, alarm bells start ringing. Writer-director Karen Moncrieff occasionally tips her hand bit, giving a tad too much significance to moody teen poetry and adding a few too many trendy psychological maladies (anorexia, self-mutilation). Nevertheless, this harsh, brutally honest drama is both intelligent and mature. 96 minutes
