The Sea

This off-kilter Icelandic version of King Lear is set in a small Icelandic village where nearly everyone plays the fool. The aging founder of a fishing company summons his three children home, and tries to decide which one should take over the family business. It's filled, naturally, with bitter, greedy people, but there's a bleak, cold-hearted sense of humor if you dig for it. Sort of like an episode of "Dynasty" as directed by Ingmar Bergman. In English and Icelandic with English subtitles. 109 minutes
