Marooned in Iraq

From director Bahman Ghobadi (A Time for Drunken Horses) comes this timely comedy/drama. During the Iran-Iraq War, a squabbling group of Iranian Kurdish musicians hits the road in a quest to find their long-lost lead singer, a women who may have crossed over into war-torn Kurdistan. The film grows progressively darker, driving home Ghobadi's points about injustice and human suffering under the dictatorship of Saddam Hussein. Nevertheless, the film keeps up its joyous contention that life endures even under the worst of conditions. In Farsi and Kurdish with English subtitles. 108 minutes
