Wondering why times are missing?

Thirteen

Bluntly controversial but sensitively assembled, this one rocked and shocked audiences at Sundance with the revelation that it was written by an actual 13-year-old girl. The simple story posits "puberty as horror story." Unpopular teen Tracy (Evan Rachel Wood) adopts wild child Evie (writer Nikki Reed) as her role model and is soon caught up in a world of sex, drugs, booze, shoplifting and navel piercing. It reads mostly like an "After School Special" shot for HBO, but the realistic script and fine acting make for a brutal cautionary tale. 100 minutes
