Gwyneth Paltrow does a decent enough job in this dreary biopic about suicidal poet Sylvia Plath, but the thin script and timid direction don't give her much to work with. The film follows the on-again/off-again romance between Plath and poet-stud Ted Hughes. Sylvia shuffles quietly from one scene to the next like a low-key made-for-BBC movie. Hughes sleeps around. Sylvia struggles with writer's block. Paltrow occasionally takes her clothes off, but it's slow sailing all the way. 100 minutes
