Wondering why times are missing?

Small Voices (Mga Munting Tinig)

This simplistic feel-good film from the Philippines follows in the path of such inspirational teacher dramas as Music of the Heart, Not One Less, Stand and Deliver, Mr. Holland's Opus, Dead Poet's Society and a dozen others. In it, a young teacher (Alessandra de Rossi) travels to the Philippine countryside to teach at a ramshackle elementary school. She encounters crushing poverty, indifferent parents and uncaring instructors. She triumphs, however, when she recruits the kids for an esteem-building singing contest. The script and direction are simple as can be, but the film manages to mix cliché with a certain level of political realism. In Tagalog and Filipino with English subtitles. 109 minutes
