Leaving Metropolis

This sexy, if slightly amateur gay drama/comedy concentrates on a famous painter suffering from "painter's block" (that's a new one on me). In a search for inspiration, he gets a job as a waiter (um, OK) at a small diner owned by a husband-and-wife team. Being gay, our artistic hero falls in love with the husband, setting off your basic movie love triangle. Some of the actors are good, some are not. Most of the dialogue (taken from writer/director Brad Fraser's stage play) is pretty stilted. The story's generally solid, though, and a subplot about Superman (severely truncated due to copyright restrictions) is intriguing. 89 minutes
