2009: Lost Memories

At the time it was made, this was the most expensive film ever shot in Korea. It's an epic, icy cool sci-fi action flick that rivals some of director John (The Killer, Hard-Boiled) Woo's famed bullet ballets. This one is set in an alternate world in which Japan fought alongside the Allies in World War II and now dominates all of Asia. A small group of ultra-patriotic Korean nationals, however, are plotting to overthrow their long-time Japanese rulers. Two cops (one Japanese, one Korean) are assigned to bring these mysterious rebels down. What they uncover is a brain-bending plot to change the fate of the world. Twenty-thousand rounds of ammunition were used in the shooting of this film--and it shows! In Korean and Japanese with English subtitles. 135 minutes
