The Same River Twice

In this gentle, unhurried documentary, five former hippie pals decide to regain thier youthful sense of adventure by embarking on the same river rafting trip through the Grand Canyon that they took decades earlier. The filmmakers do a fine job of contrasting the lives of these men then (free, nature-loving, drug-taking and mostly naked) and now (middle-aged, middle-class and living in the suburbs). There aren't any great revelations to be found, but there is a fine, wistful sense of nostalgia and mortality for those of a certain age/demographic. 78 minutes
