The Book of Mormon Movie, Volume 1: The Journey

Of all the inept, low-budget proselytizing Mormon films to hit theaters in the last few years, this is undoubtedly the most entertaining--if only for its unintended laughs. Imagine Cecil B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments shot as a cable access show and you've got some idea what this bargain-basement Bible epic is like. The script is a random, unconnected collection of vignettes from the first 60 pages of the Book of Mormon. The papier mâché sets look like they were looted from the original "Star Trek" series. And the poor actors are forced to shout "thees" and "thous" ever few minutes. Director/producer/writer Gary Ross (who had absolutely no film experience prior to making this) actually plans to make eight more of these. God help us. 120 minutes
