Good Bye, Lenin!
The year is 1989. The place is communist East Germany. A woman watches her son being arrested during a protest rally, suffers a heart attack and falls into a coma. Several months later, she wakes up. During the intervening months, the U.S.S.R. has fallen apart and the Berlin Wall has tumbled. To prevent further shocks to her system, however, the woman's (now freed) son and her friends conspire to make her think that nothing has changed. This one's an outragously inventive comedy, a touching drama and a pretty sharp criticism of both communism and capitalism. Should have been nominated for Best Foreign Film. 118 minutes
