Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter ... and Spring

This gentle, Zen-like film may take a bit of patience to get absorbed in, but once you've adjusted to its rhythm, you'll be hooked. The film follows the long life story of a young boy being trained as a replacement for the master of a Buddhist monastery in Korea. Much of the film is wordless, but director Kim Ki Duk has created a lush world overflowing with visual symbolism. Not only does the film elegantly trace the long and winding path of life's journey, but it shows us the complex world of spiritual conflict that leads to enlightenment. In Korean with English subtitles. 103 minutes
