I'm Not Scared

This sharply directed Italian import filters its chiller of a plot through the eyes of a young kid, giving the whole thing a unique perspective. Preteen Michele (Giuseppe Cristano) is spending his summer like most kids: riding bikes, throwing rocks and generally wandering around the countryside unsupervised. One day, he stumbles across a deep pit near an abandoned farmhouse. Chained at the bottom is a bedraggled little boy. Who has hidden him there, and for what sinister purpose? Although it's ultimately a pretty lightweight thriller, the film nicely turns the old "Boy Who Cried Wolf" formula on its ear. How can Michele tell anyone about this when one of the adults in his tiny hometown must be responsible? 108 minutes
