A Day Without a Mexican

In this satirical, speculative comedy from writer/director/cartoonist Sergio Arau, the state of California wakes up one morning to find that every single Latino has vanished from the face of the Earth. Who will cook the food? Who will clean the pools? How can rich, overprivileged white folks possibly cope without their brown brothers? It's more tongue-in-cheek than the inflammatory story would indicate. Micro-budgeted and filled with amateur acting, the film generates a few decent laughs, but it more or less mangles the line between goofball "mockumentary" and heavy-handed "message" movie. In English and Spanish with English subtitles. 100 minutes
