Bad Education

The inimitable Pedro Almodóvar (Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, All About My Mother, Talk to Her) returns with another incredible offering. This one's a noirish melodrama examining the lifelong effects of Franco-era religious schooling and sexual abuse on the lives of two friends/filmmakers. (Some say this is Almodóvar's most autobiographical work to date.) The complex narrative jumps around a bit in time and requires viewers who are on the ball. It's worth the effort, though, spinning an unpredictable tale with all the expected Almodóvar flourishes. In Spanish with English subtitles. 105 minutes
