The Major and the Minor

This vaguely obscure Billy Wilder comedy from 1942 (his first as a director) has Army officer Ray Milland taking charge of a young girl on a cross-country train trip, who just happens to be an impoverished Ginger Rogers disguising her age to save on the ticket. Naturally, she falls in love with him. Unfortunately, she's pretending to be 12. The film's a tiny bit dated, but the chemistry between the leads is a winner, and Wilder knew his way around a romantic comedy, even as a freshman. 100 minutes
