Wondering why times are missing?

Technically speaking, filmmaker Jonathan Caouette spent his whole life making this dreamy, collage-like documentary. In it, he assembles old snapshots, Super-8 film, answering machine messages, video diaries and the occasional dramatic re-enactment to create a fragmentary 19-year portrait of his life growing up with a schizophrenic mother. This no-budget film was assembled on Caouette's iMac and reportedly set him back all of $218. It's quite a piece of psychological self-examination and proof positive that there are now no barriers to stop anyone from making their own film. However, mainstream audiences uninterested in "outsider art" are likely to find this way too personal and way too slow. 87 minutes
