The Atomic Filmmakers

This matter-of-fact documentary traces the formation of a secret Hollywood movie studio, established in the 1940s by the U.S. government for the sole purpose of filming atomic bomb tests. Various cameramen who worked on the project are interviewed and dozens of declassified films are shown. The documentary (by Star Wars special effects technician Peter Kuran) tends to gloss over the dangers these men faced, but the footage they produced (shot in everything from Cinemascope to 3-D) is simply stunning. 52 minutes
