Red Lights

A selfish husband and his self-possessed wife are traveling through rural France to pick up their children at summer camp. Along the way, he decides to stop for a drink or two (or three) while she waits in the car. Frustrated by the simmering tensions between them, she announces that she won't be there when he gets back. True to her word, she vanishes. The hapless hubby sets off in search of her, picking up a hitchhiking fugitive along the way. The story is filled with stupid mistakes and petty annoyances on the part of it's characters, but director Cédric Kahn slowly builds the story into a white-knuckle nightmare. Based on the novel by master French crime novelist George Simenon. In French with English subtitles. 105 minutes
