Clint Eastwood directs and stars in this emotional sports flick about a washed-up trainer (Eastwood) and a wannabe female boxer (Hilary Swank). The story is pure sports movie cliché with the grumpy father figure, the underdog contender and the big title shot all thrown in for good measure. The film has gotten tons of praise, and there's no denying the power in some of the performances. I just wish the alternately macho/weepy story had a few more flashes of originality. 137 minutes PG-13.
