This odd, minimalist comedy from Germany has a bored, rootless retiree discovering a reason for living in the zesty music of zydeco. Although the titular character's accordion obsession does nothing but confuse and annoy the residents of his tiny German town, he soon makes his way to Texas where he drinks in the alien culture. Schultze Gets the Blues plays like an even more deadpan (if you can imagine) version of Aki Kaurismäki (Leningrad Cowboys Go America, The Man Without a Past). It's pretty dry stuff, but there's a lyrical quality to this purposely drab snapshot of a late bloomer. In English and German with English subtitles. 114 minutes PG.
