Asian superstar Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer) is the writer/director/star of this wildly entertaining kung fu comedy, which became the highest-grossing Hong Kong film in history and recently won several huge honors at the Hong Kong Film Awards. The film casts Chow as a wannabe gangster in 1940s China who wants to join the infamous "Axe Gang." Unfortunately, our hero has no skills. With the help of an obnoxious landlady and her seemingly frail husband, however, our boy gets a crash course in super-powered martial arts. The outrageous special effects and frantic kung fu battles are a sight to behold. Just don't go expecting serious, Bruce Lee-style action. This is Jackie Chan crossed with Wile E. Coyote! 95 minutes R.
