Matthew Vaughn, the producer of Guy Ritchie's slick crime films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, strikes out on his own to direct this British crime flick. Unlike Ritchie's hip films, this one's a dark and gritty throwback to the '70s heyday of British gangster noir. Daniel Craig (the new James Bond, perhaps) stars as a nameless, highly efficient drug runner who's lured back into the business for one "last job." The story (based on J.J. Connolly's novel) is hardly original, but Vaughn's confident directing style and Craig's charmingly amoral character make this a memorable crime saga. 105 minutes R.
