Ron Howard directs this "uplifting" drama/romance about real-life boxer Jim Braddock (played by Russell Crowe). Braddock became a Depression-era folk hero when he came back from retirement to challenge Max Baer for the heavyweight championship of the world in 1935. It's basically Seabiscuit with a guy instead of a horse. Solid, crowd-pleasing, but a little too by-the-numbers. 144 minutes PG-13.
