Legendary director Sam Peckinpah's epic western has been restored to it full, feature glory after 40 years. When it was released in 1965, the studio cut as much as an hour from it, dumped the original soundtrack and--by all accounts--butchered any continuity the film had. Now, all but six minutes have been meticulously reconstructed in a brand new print. Charlton Heston, Richard Harris and James Coburn star as a motley crew of Confederate soldiers offered a pardon from a Civil War prison camp if they join up with the Union and head out into Mexican territory looking for three children kidnapped by massacring raiders. This was Peckinpah's first large-scale Western and certainly prefigured the blood-soaked work he would do in 1969's The Wild Bunch. 136 minutes
