One-Eyed Jacks

This relatively obscure 1961 Western represents star Marlon Brando's only directorial outing. Brando stars as a bandit named Rio, who robs banks with the help of his dad (Karl Malden). After shooting up a bank in Mexico, dad makes off with the loot and leaves his son to die in the desert. Years later, Rio busts out of prison and goes gunning for his dad. Only problem? Pops is reformed and working as a sheriff in sunny California. Needless to say, things do not turn out quite the way our antihero expected. Ambitious (and Oscar nominated), this unusual Western mixes Old West action and oedipal drama. 141 minutes
