Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior

Limber-limbed Tony Jaa stars in this old-fashioned martial arts revenge flick. Jaa plays a simple Thai villager who is sent to the big city to retrieve a stolen sacred statue. The plot is simple good guys versus bad guys, but the fight scenes are mind-blowing. Without the assistance of computer-generated effects, gravity-defying wirework and cleverly edited stunt doubles, Jaa shows off some brutally effective Muay Thai moves--most of which involve crushing heads or snapping limbs. The film is a tad violent for the kids in the audience, but martial arts fans will watched slack-jawed. 101 minutes R.
