Eyes Without a Face

Georges Franju's 1959 gothic tale is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful horror movies ever shot. In it, a brilliant (but mad, of course) surgeon kidnaps young girls, removes their faces and tries to graft them onto the head of his daughter, who was horribly disfigured in an auto accident. Needless to say, things don't go well with this particular plan. It's no rapid-fire shocker, but Franju's classic (originally marketed in America as The Horror Chamber of Dr. Faustus) is a sad, visceral, poetic monster movie of the highest degree. 88 minutes
