Lars Von Trier, director of some of the most brilliantly unwatchable films on the planet, returns with this invective-filled sequel to 2003's brutal Dogville. Bryce Dallas Howard takes over for Nicole Kidman as Grace, our fallen heroine who wanders into a Depression-era Southern plantation where slavery has continued unabated. She tries to free the workers with frighteningly mixed results. Aesthetically, it's not as interesting as Dogville, but the acting is great (Danny Glover, Willem Dafoe, Lauren Bacall and Udo Kier are among the cast), and there's plenty of ideology expounding on the ugliness of America. 139 minutes R.
