Steven Soderbergh (Ocean's Eleven, Traffic) goes back to his roots, experimenting with low-budget, shot-on-video indie filmmaking. This small-town mystery features a cast of amateur actors and a real-life setting. The lives of workers at an economically depressed Ohio doll factory are turned upside down when a coworker is murdered. Soderbergh sketches the horrifying isolation and dissatisfaction of these people's lives with a low-key realism. Select art house crowds will take to this purposefully drab, bleakly humorous drama, but audiences waiting patiently for Ocean's Thirteen should probably steer clear.90 minutes R.
