This easygoing, largely African-American cast romantic comedy stars Sanaa Lathan (Alien vs. Predator) as Kenya, an L.A. career woman who can't seem to find time for romance. Following another lonely Valentine's Day, our gal agrees to a blind date. Naturally, he turns out to be the complete opposite of her ideal man--a free-spirited (not to mention white) landscaper (hunky Brit Simon Baker). Assorted members of the cast (Taraji P. Henson, Mike Epps, Alfre Woodard) dispense advice, telling Kenya to either dump this boy or go with her heart. Things get even more complicated when Kenya crosses paths with a lawyer (hunky Blair Underwood), who seems to be the IBM (ideal black man) she's been searching for. Something New is, of course, the same old formulaic RomCom, but it gets points for cute casting and some light social commentary.100 minutes PG-13.
