If someone in Hollywood could find a way to combine ballroom dancing and penguins into a single movie, they'd be rich. This one only has ballroom dancing. Robert Carlyle (The Full Monty) stars as a grieving widower who stumbles across a man dying in a car wreck. The man (John Goodman, as it happens) confesses his dying wish: He was on his way to meet his long-lost childhood sweetheart at a ballroom dance class. Our protagonist keeps the appointment for him, meeting an assortment of odd characters, including a wise dance instructor (Mary Steenburgen) and a cute girl (Marisa Tomei). Donnie Wahlberg, Adam Arkin, Sonya Braga and Danny DeVito are all in there too. The film is cute, old-fashioned and painfully sweet, but audiences will probably love it.103 minutes PG-13.
