James Redfield's cheesy adventure novel (marketed quite heavily as a "true" self-help book) was pretty popular with the New Age crowd before What the Bleep Do We Know? bumbled along. A good decade after the book's rise and fall, a gaggle of cheapjack moviemakers and a cast of D-list stars try to hitch it to the coattails of The Da Vinci Code. Matthew Settle (who?) stars as a high school teacher who travels to Peru to investigate some ancient sacred scrolls. As in The Da Vinci Code, high-ranking church officials are bent on supressing this secret info. There's plenty of metaphysical hoo-hah (the film endlessly repeats the book's feel-good "insights"), but precious little action or drama or humor or ... 98 minutes PG.
