After making a misjudged advance toward her mother's boyfriend, 16-year-old Heidi (Abbie Cornish) flees her home for the small Australian ski town of Jinbyne. Entranced by the startling beauty of the wintry landscapes, she begins to create a new life for herself. With little money or experience, she accepts a job at a gas station, where she falls for Joe (Sam Worthington), the son of a wealthy local farmer. Unfortunately, Heidi's self-destructive tendencies soon resurface, threatening to destroy her carefully constructed new world. This sexually charged coming-of-age tale manages to be both painful and compelling in its open-eyed observation of a confused young heroine. 106 minutes R.
