The King

Gael García Bernal (Y Tu Mamá Tamién) stars in this bitter, rough-edged family drama about a troubled man, recently discharged from the Navy, who travels to Corpus Christi to locate the father he never knew. What he finds is a prosperous, happily married pastor (William Hurt), who wants nothing to do with his sinful past. Things only get worse from there, descending into the slow dread of a domestic horror film. Harsh religious indictment and brutal twists aside, British director James Marsh (Wisconsin Death Trip) gives the whole project the unpredictable and lifelike atmosphere of a documentary. 105 minutes R.
