Who Killed the Electric Car?

This environmental documentary plays out like a "whodunit" with a list of suspects (the auto industry, the Bush administration, the California Air Resource Board) and an unfortunate victim (GM's much-beloved electrically powered EV1). While the film would seem like your ordinary liberal plea for an end to pollution and dependence on Big Oil, it does dig up some disturbing clues. For example, if suspending production on the EV1 was simply a matter of shutting down an unprofitable enterprise, why did GM go to such elaborate lengths to wipe out any trace of the EV1's existence, prying the car out of the hands of dedicated owners? Hmmm. 92 minutes PG.
