Richard Linklater (Dazed and Confused, School of Rock) seems like an odd choice to helm this fictionalized adaptation of Eric Schlosser's non-fictional exposé of the fast food industry. Turns out he is. This scattershot condemnation follows a bunch of storylines (an industry exec looking for contaminated meat, a group of illegal immigrants looking for work, a high school girl looking for her purpose in life) to no great effect. Linklater and Schlosser seem to think they're making Upton Sinclair's The Jungle for the 21st century. But a topic this big neeeds much more pointed criticism--not just a lot of cameos from the likes of Bruce Willis, Kris Kristofferson and Ethan Hawke.114 minutes R.
