Does the world really need another inspirational true-life sports movie? Apparently so. Shot in New Mexico, this '60s-set drama tells the story of an unconventional young coach (Jeffrey Donovan, "Touching Evil") assigned to lead a rag-tag girls basketball team in small-town Oklahoma. What are the odds these underdogs will overcome adversity and triumph in the stirring state championship-set finale? Let's just say you wouldn't find many bookies willing to cover the spread. Writer/director Robert Collector (Red Heat--the one with Linda Blair, not the one with Arnold Schwarzenegger) is mighty sincere, but the film is chock full o' cliché. 131 minutes PG.
