Wondering why times are missing?

The Page Turner

This tasteful, highbrow thiller comes to us from France. It centers on a talented young musician named Déborah François (Mélanie Prouvost) who takes a thankless job assisting famed concert pianist Catherine Frot (Ariane Fouchécourt). As it happens, François knows Frot from way back when. As a child, François auditioned for a prestigious music academy. She failed to get in thanks to Frot, who was one of the panel judges. It's obvious the young woman has taken this job as a means of getting revenge on the famed musician. But director Denis Dercourt's strength is in patiently building up the tension to breaking-point levels. When will François turn on Frot, and what nastiness does she have in store? Don't expect blood and melodrama--this is a well-composed art house piece, to be sure. But it's a finely-tuned example of the art of holding a grudge. In French with English subtitles. 85 minutes
