Committing Poetry in Times of War

This new, locally lensed documentary is a poetic glance at a community's creative response to a series of teacher firings in the wake of the Iraq War. In 2003, Albuquerque Youth Poetry Slam Team coach Bill Nevins was fired after his students began writing about the war. Days later, local police began employing brutal tactics to quell anti-war protesters. In this atmosphere, a group of young poets and musicians joined forces to defy fear tactics, support freedom of speech and stand with the fired teacher. 114 minutes
